Wildflowers on the Crab and Winkle Way
After wildflower spotting along the north Kent coast, I headed west again to Whitstable then south, inland towards Canterbury.

Crab and Winkle Way over the A299
This cycle route travels south out of Whitstable and then is carried by a bridge over the A299, which was open and sunny on both sides.

Notes from the walk
Through fields either side of A299 just outside Whitstable – Two buzzards, wild carrot, big white clover, potentilla, plantain, white achillea, giant hogweed, allium, poss horseradish field margins, geranium molle, salsify, sow thistle, hypericum
First woods – Carex, geum, briar rose, nipplewort, dock, bramble, dog mercury
Dappled shade – creeping buttercup not refexed
Sunny ditch – profuse ranunculus, pink clover, medick
Full sun gravel – scarlet pimpernel, tiny pink flower, lotus
Dappled shade – cleavers, stachys, herb robert, self heal, cirsium, ragwort, different hypericum, tiny pink pea
Damp patch sun – loads of orchids lavender pink with spotted leaves
Dappled shade – burdock, oxeye daisy, blakbird sunbathing in middle of stream, cloud of black butterflies, pink campion, honeysuckle, opium poppy, speedwell, big pink striped convolvulus, meadowsweet
Near fruit farm – burdock taller than me, greater periwinkle, barley on edge of oilseed rape field, goldfinches
Field opposite church – poppy, scented chamomile
Giant cow parsley too big – no ID but not hogweed or fennel
Heavily scented wild rose, school sports day
Kent uni (back of Park Wood) thrush, fox
Hoary sow thistle, view of Canterbury, nettles, herb robert, field mushroom
Canterbury heavily scented (planted) lime trees
