Wildflowers spotted in Zakynthos Greece on holiday
I was on a family holiday, so not botanising religiously, but I did come across a few things of interest.
Sea Squill – Drimia maritima
As an amateur gardener, when I saw this substantial plant I assumed it was Foxtail Lily. But I looked it up when I got home. It was a few feet tall and growing in both open spaces and in Pine woodland.
Squirting cucumber – Ecballium elaterium
I didn’t know what this was at the time – looks like a fun plant 😉
Fleabane – Dittrichia
Wild oat – Avena
Spurge – Euphorbia
This prostrate spurge was growing in the paving by the pool.
Crown-of-Thorns – Euphorbia milii in a pot
Not a wildflower but it grabbed my attention as I think it’s the flower used to look like a poppy in pressed flower jewellery.
