Verdant New Forest Oct 2020

On a visit to New Milton in Hampshire last October, we walked along the coast and inland in the New Forest.

Flora of the coast near Hurst Castle

Hurst Castle is near New Milton. There was plenty of vegetation growing in amongst the pebbles, although not so many flowers.

Sea campion – Silene maritima

I did spot Sea campion – Silene maritima, and a little blue pale flower which I think had four petals and succulent foliage (unfortunately the pic didn’t come out well so if you have any ideas do message me!).

Verdant forest

I absolutely adore the New Forest and the range of greens to bathe the eyes. We seem to go there every year one way or another.

Tormentil – Potentilla erecta

In the clearing by the stream was some Tormentil – Potentilla erecta, which I hadn’t come across before, but looks like a cinquefoil with a petal missing.

Time for a cup of tea with a great view!

My previous visit to the New Forest was near BrockenhurstAMP in April.

Read more about Silene / Campion.

I also visited the New Forest in JulyAMP.
