Although I haven’t mentioned Foodie Fridays recently, I haven’t forgotten about them. In fact on holiday in Florida last month, I was very pleased to find something great happening in the town of Celebration.
Regularly in Celebration, there is a take-out night when about fifteen fast food vans all descend on an open space and the locals come out. We came across it by accident, and found families out in force, sitting on blankets on the ground, or filling up the patio tables and chairs provided. As a community exercise it was working a treat, with neighbours greeting each other wherever you looked. What a great idea!
We plumped for the Hawaiian stall and bought some gorgeous coconut shrimp with pineapple dipping sauce. But we could have had Korean food, British fish and chips, or Japanese dishes to name just a few. There were even specialist dessert wagons – Key Lime Pie for me!
What a great way to foster a community spirit. Find out more about Food Truck Friday
